In 1986, the formation of Early Steps Schools was sponsored by the Independent School Admission Association, and that year, 18 schools became members. Today, more than 50 independent schools rely on Early Steps to assist families of children of color with the application process for kindergarten and first grade. Early Steps Schools is seen as a source of leadership and vision for schools as they continue their work towards building welcoming and diverse communities.
