History
Vandegrift High School opened in the fall of 2009 as the fifth high school in the Leander Independent School District. It is named in honor of First Lieutenant Matthew Ryan Vandegrift, a graduate of Leander High School and Texas A&M University who served in the United States Marine Corps and was killed in action in Iraq in 2008.
During its first year, students attended classes at Four Points Middle School while the permanent campus was completed. The following year, students moved into the new campus, which quickly became one of the fastest-growing and highest-performing public high schools in Central Texas.
